Vick has an annual birthday bash where the blues greats Chris Youlden,
Gordon Smith, Jimmy Appudurai Chua et al. come out of the wood-work, and
circulate on and off stage playing 12 bar blues in between a few pints
of ale, which lubricates the playing. I might post the venue for the next
one. With all these prepackaged boy/girl bands out there, (has anyone
noticed the tunes all have the same beat - maybe it’s the only one
white folk can dance to) it’s nice to hear serious live music where
one never knows what’s going to happen. Blues is like that, as long
as you can play, you don’t have to rehearse - and the more you drink
the better it gets.
